Using a Rode PodCaster Pro with a Shure SM7B works well, set your levels to somewhere around the 40-45 mark and set the slider to around 75% and you are good to go. Except you start to introduce a little bit of noise that should be post-processed if you are really conscious about your audio quality.
Enter the Cloudlifter microphone activator.
This in-line device will use phantom power to drive the microphone, pulling the levels up as much as 25db which helps to significantly lower the noise floor of your audio signal. With the PodCaster Pro and a Cloudlifter, you can lower your levels to around 35 when using an SM7B and get VERY nice audio, free of pre-amp noise.
Such a good pairing with the aforementioned equipment.
Couldn't be easier. Plug in the RE-20 and the DBX 286s, turn on phantom power, and it's good to go!
Well, tried it on my SM7b and my RE-20. All I can say is holy crap it’s like night and day. Gives your dynamic microphone, the fat and rich up close punch of a powered Mic. Just be sure to pull your gains back before you put this in line. The difference is phenomenal.
